Linda is a strong-willed person with a contemplative personality, Although she seems tough in the outside, her sensitivity is clearly noticeable. She often places her friend's needs before her own. She can be reckless at times, but her intuition usually pulls her through any obstacle she encounters.

–Official Description of Linda

Linda Meilinda is the main protagionist and the sole playable character in the DreadOut series and one of the two survivors of the haunted abandoned village.

Personality

Linda, nicknamed "Lin" by her close friends, is a quiet teenager, yet very strong willed, brave, and tough. She doesn't enjoy voicing her opinion in situations, and dislikes to hear constant unimportant (to her) chatter (evidenced how she got annoyed when Ira begins to monologue on how they met). Linda is rarely seen smiling, most of the time retaining a solemn, sometimes irritated face, implying that she may be quick tempered. Linda seems to dislike losing and had childishly pouted after Ira had won the patty-cake game, and slapped her on the cheek, in which she responded with playfully strangling the latter. She also retains a sense of humor, like pretending to be possessed in front of Ira, and gesturing the "blah blah" hand as Ira was reminiscing about their past.

Well, endurance was always your strong suit.

–Ira describing Linda in DreadOut Act I

Despite the fact that she's trapped in a living nightmare, she keeps a cool, calm, and collected demeanor, sometimes appearing almost emotionless, though she still shows signs of being intimidated, and scared at times. Throughout the game, Linda doesn't panic or get surprised easily, which is a great asset for her as she needs to keep a focused, and calm mind to survive.

Same old crazy busy buddy Linda. Always gotta be checking on everyone, and everything all the time.

–Posessed Ira/Suzzie describing Linda in DreadOut Act II

Even though she is the most quiet among the group, Linda is very selfless, and very willing to boldly put herself on the line to protect the ones she cares about, especially her best friend Ira. As Ira stated Linda always seems to be extremely paranoid about keeping check with everyone, and everything all the time, which might imply that she is scared of losing people, and things close to her, more than herself. This fear is supported when she collapsed in exhaustion, tormented, and guilt after witnessing Doni, and Shelly's death. When feeling her friends are threatened, Linda may even get a little aggressive, and defensive, one time even attacking her girl scouts teacher with a rock, who had dressed as a Pocong, when feeling Ira was threatened (in reality Ira was just a bit scared).

Even when she was my student she was always bit of a dullard.

–Ms. Siska monologuing Linda in DreadOut 2 Act 7

In DreadOut 2, Linda is often riddled with survivors guilt, and sin for failing to save her classmates in the previous game. Despite the traumatic memories, and now being bullied in school, Linda seems to try act normally, and even seems interested in mundane things like attending class or finding a boyfriend in the future.

DreadOut 2

Linda's in-game appearance (DreadOut 2)

With an undetermined amount of time having taken place after the first game, Linda appears still to be a high school student, sporting the same uniform she wore the first game. Linda still has the short shoulder-length hairstyle from the true ending of the game, as well as her necklace (but with a black string).

Instead of the red sling bag she carried in the first game, Linda now carries with her a backpack, given as a reward for finding a missing right shoe. She also wears a bracelet on her right hand which can change color based on circumstances she face.

History and Game

Early Life

Born as daughter of Mister Raffi, and Madame Erna of Meilinda Family, Linda spent her childhoods in remote area of Kampung Cienteh (although when Linda becomes teenager, she seems not remember the place). After some strange incident befall upon her family, Linda became orphan, and grew up in an orphanage.

At one point in elementary school, she befriended Ira, and became best friends, eventually going to the same high school together. Sometime later, she also began renting a small room in a house with other housemates, and the landlady.

And she seemed to get along well with Shelly, Yayan, and Doni as well, it isn't certain how long Linda has known them.

In High School, she, and her friends went on a field trip. Though along the way, she fell asleep, which leads up to the events at the start of the game.

DreadOut

Linda goes on a school field trip with her classmates, and her teacher, Ms. Siska. After coming to a strange town, she, and her friends explore the abandoned town, only to get split up. Now alone, Linda struggles to find her missing friends, and escape from the ghost-ridden town. However, one-by-one she experiences the death of her classmates, and Ira, and Ms. Siska's deeper involvement with the hauntings.

For a more detailed account of Linda's involvement see: Linda Meilinda/DreadOut Story

In the canonical ending, Linda defeats the the First Sister, and manages to escape from the town alive, though as the sole survivor. In the canon ending of the Keepers of the Dark DLC, it is explained that Linda is chosen as the new Keepers of the Dark during the trial of various realms.

Blank Period

After managing to return to civilization, Linda was questioned heavily by the police on the disappearance of her classmates and Siska. Eventually she was released, and continued attending the same school she had been with Ira, Shelly, Doni, and Yayan.

However, her return to normalcy was in name only. She suffered from nightmares brought on by the traumatic experiences she faced in the town, as well as survivor’s guilt for not being able to save her friends. She was also rendered an outcast at school and her classmates began bullying her, believing that she was 'weird' and that she was somehow responsible for the disappearance of her friends and teacher; a club had even been formed just to hate her. Despite this, Linda continues to attempt to act normally, concerning herself primarily with more mundane concerns.

DreadOut 2

An undetermined amount of time has passed since the events of the first game. Linda appears to have assimilated back into regular life, being the only survivor of the tragedy from the first game, though it seems that she has not forgotten the nightmares. Thus, Linda's journey continues for seeking answers, redemption, and acceptance of her role as Keepers of the Dark, stopping supernatural threats lurking around the town. And also, putting an end to Ms. Siska hideous scheme.

Skills and Abilities

Skills

As a young teenage girl, Linda is shown to be physically to be quite athletic, able to run far distances before slowing down to catch her breath. Other times, she is shown with to be quick, and flexible, able to dodge or avoid some attacks made by hostile ghosts. She also has some skill in survival, evidenced by how she managed to survive, and "escape" from the school in Act I, which Linda has possibly learned while she was in Girl Scouts when she was younger.

Compared to others her age, Linda has a very strong mentality, able to keep calm, and focused mind in situations where a normal person will panic. This skill allows her to have a better grasp of a situation, and then adapt to it so that she may reach her goal.

In DreadOut 2, she is seen wielding various weapons like a knife, and axe. Although it isn't shown in game, Linda has an old rusty Martial Arts trophy in her room, which means at one point in time she was a skilled martial artist before stopping.

Abilities

Linda possesses a strong sixth sense, which is the ability to see, and sense ghosts & supernatural beings. She may also sense items worth picking up. She can channel her supernatural power through solid objects such as smartphone which she can combat hostile enemies by taking their picture. She also has strong endurance, which she can heal relatively fast after getting hurt by enemies.

Linda's Red Eyes.

On some occasions, her eyes will flash red, and she will be warned of spiritual events later on, which is shown prior coming to the abandoned town, and at the ending of DreadOut.

Although unknown whether or not it is tied to the story line, when she "dies" in the game, usually by being attacked too often by a ghost, she is transported to the Limbo, revived, and given a chance to start over from where she died.

In the true ending of DreadOut, if the player manages to prevent Ira's death, it is revealed that Linda has inherited some supernatural powers from the Lady in Red, and became the new Keepers of the Dark.

In DreadOut 2, Linda is shown has the ability to communicate with supernatural being since childhood. Linda also, with a upgraded Irisphone, can stun enemy's movement using flash. And using an ancient keris[1] that she obtains at the end of Act 6, she can drain enemy's life-force to regenerate her own health.
